Travel Bits; Taiwan

Trip Date: 31st July 2015
(It's never too late to blog about it)

It was freaking hot at that time of year,
So, be smart and drink tons of water.
Unlike myself,
I was sick halfway through the journey.

Note: Be sure to wear SPORT SHOES,
I wore Sketchers Walking Shoes and it's not enough,
my feet hurt like a *tuuut*

1st: Taichung

Location: Feng Jia Night Market

This is by far my favourite night market in Taiwan (for food),
every iconic Taiwanese street food is here!
ERMERGERD.
and it's so cheap
(Price range: RM2-RM10 - depends on what you order)
We practically ordered everything we find unique
 - perks of having someone to share your food with - you get to eat more variety -
I ate and ate and ate and ate until I couldn't move.
(didn't post up everything I ate)

Crispy Fried Chicken
Juicy . Crispy . Flavourful

大腸包小腸 aka Big Sausage Wrap Small Sausage
A Taiwanese Specialty
I was not particularly into this delight,
salted vegetables are not my thing.
However,
the grilled sausage was perfection.

- Taiwanese Sausages are generally freakingly good here
& it can be found at almost any street -

I'm lucky enough to have a great Travel Companion.
Seriously,
He had to put up with a lot of my nonsense during the whole trip,
and I'm eternally grateful to the extent of thinking that I'm not worthy of him.

*Stares into blank space*
*Snap Snap*
Okay, back to the Trip

Spicy Fishballs - Szechuan Soup
It's so spicy & delightfully HOT
I did a retarded 'mmmmm dance' with every bite I took
Yes, imagine the stares I got - NONE, ha!

Smelly Tofu
A MUST TRY IN TAIWAN
Honestly, I was extremely hesitant to try this at first,
but after being pushed by Le BF,
I actually tried it and it was
AMAZEBALLS
Crispy exterior, with hot soft interior <3
and it's not smelly at all.
(However, lining up to get it was a total nightmare:
THE STINCH WAS DEADLY )
- took a boat ride to this location -

Location: Sun Moon Lake

Flocked with Tourists

Herbal Eggs for our Breakfast
2 eggs ain't enough man,
especially for two big eaters,
but then again,
we wanted to avoid the EXTREMELY long queue

That Lovey Dovey Picture every couple will take on a Holiday,
I do not approve lips to lips pictures,
well,
because,
erm,
I'll write a blog post about that soon ;)

Milk Ice Cream - IS THE BOMB,
especially for the hot weather,
it's hotter than Malaysia okay.

Cable Car Ride to ...

Location: Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village

Yep,
tons of picture-perfect areas here.
Believe me, I have more in my External Hard Disk.

Empowered or a Sacrifice?

As you stroll inside,
there's a Fairytale-like area,
which means...
MORE PICTURES.

Note: MONOPOD is a necessity

Apparently a Taiwanese Drama was filmed here:
 Romantic Princess.

Le Bf is really good at giving me the princess treatment,
so,
I guess the context fits :P

Toasted Rice & Sesame Glazed with Honey
Street Snack ftw!
We lined up for this delicacy and managed to get one of the
 last 5 sticks.
- Talk about Luck -

Cringe Line: Well, I'm here with him, so, I'm already lucky.

2nd: Kaohsiung

- Took the High Speed Rail -
Costed a Bomb, but,
we save on Time.

Authentic Pork Ribs La Mian
Believe or not, this was our FIRST complete meal of the trip.
This place was recommended by our Homestay Owner,
Old & Rustic & Local's Delight.
I love everything about this dish,
Springy noodles, flavourful porkribs,
I managed to finish everything.
- It was just TOO GOOD -

A big bowl of Shaved Ice with Fruits x 2 pax
If you have lets say 10 pax,
they'll fit everything in a humongous bowl!
With the heat, ICE with Fresh Fruits tasted HEAVENLY.

Location: Dream Mall

It's a big-ass mall, with a ferris wheel on the very top!
- Picture Opportunity after the Rain -

Note: Do not purchase Birkenstock in a Mall,
checkout their outlets near a night market.
I bought mine (Definitely Original) from Taipei.

Location: Liu He Night Market

Papaya Milk
is a must to drink here
Sweet, Creamy & Refreshing.

Watermelon Milk
EQUALLY DELICIOUS!

Sour & Spicy Noodles
You can choose the spicy level: We chose Level 2.
There's this uncle who ordered Level 3 - Spiciest of all,
he was acting all macho while perspiring and adding soy sauce into his bowl.
- Hilarious Sight -

Authentic Milk Tea
This particular shop is famous for their one only drink:
WARM MILK TEA with PEARLS.
Yes, only WARM.
At that moment,
I was a little disappointed because
the weather was seriously too hot for warm milk tea,
but it was GOOD.

- Bf Approved -

Huangjin Aihe aka Golden Love River
We have to walk a distance to this area,
and it's really refreshing to see people exercising (jogging, cycling) at 11pm,
Taiwanese seriously has a healthy lifestyle
and they do not have to worry about any EVIL HUMANS,
due to their super low almost non-existent crime rates.
- I LOVE THIS COUNTRY -

Fresh Charcoal Toasted Toasts with Milk Tea
A Hearty Breakfast

3rd: Taipei

Authentic Beef Noodles
First Stop - LUNCH in Taipei
This place was recommended by our Homestay Owner,
he said order Large and Share.
- Wise Words, Wise Words -

Location: Taipei 101

Honestly, unless you have a thick wallet to shop here,
taking pictures with the iconic building is the only thing you can do here.
I expected more tho.

Hello from Us.

oh yes,
and this iconic LOVE STATUE.
After analysing potential photographers to help us take a photo,
we asked a person with a DSLR to help us.
- He knows his angles -

As you know,
Din Tai Fung originated from Taiwan,
so, my Bf wanted to try their FIRST outlet.
The queue was insanely long,
but we waited anyway.
The service was excellent,
however,
I find the Xiao Long Bao overhyped.
- I've had better ones in Shanghai, China -
It was a good experience tho.

Location: Xi Men Ding

Here is where the best MEE SUAH lies!
I don't usually eat mee suah,
but this was SPECTACULAR.
It tasted so clean, sweet, savoury,
add a lil' chilly and BAM!
The queue for it was long, however,
it's FAST.

Location: Jiu Fen Old Street

Streets after Streets of Shops, Snacks and Souvenirs.

Chewy Flavoured Balls Dessert

Great on a hot day,
deliciously chewy 'pillows',
if you think this will be similar to the one you had in Blackball or Snowflake,
YOU'RE WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS.
- this is so much better -

Location: Shifen Station

Releasing Lanterns on an operating railway,
YUP!
Cringe Line: Hopefully our Love reached the Gods

Again, Picture Opportunities!

Location: Shifen Falls

Oh god, we had to walk for an hour to get here,
just for the view,
can't even touch the cool water.
- my face of exhaustion and desperation for food -

However,
le Bf piggybacked me for awhile on our walk back to the station.
I struggled (more like squirmed) at first and it resulted with both of us on the ground.
*I am sorry*
Then the second attempt was a success,
embarrassing but sweet.

In the train,
I was coughing like crazy,
like to the extent of people trying to get away from me kind of crazy,
I'm extremely thankful to the young man who gave
me a packet of tissues for my phlegm.
*I know, I was disgusting*
and I'm thankful that he was there to take care of me,
and he didn't even complain, not once,
I know, he was a lil' bit annoyed thoughout the whole trip.
- who wouldn't -

Location: Raohe Street Night Market

This meat-filled Bun is the bomb dot com.
Uber flavourful and the textures.
mmmmmm.

Mango Ice
I couldn't eat a lot due to me being SICK.

Smelly Tofu
Drenched in sauce,
but I personally prefer the dry version.

Location: Tamsui Old Street

I was sick,
but then again... YOLO...
- Regretted it -

The Ah Gei
Mildly spicy, glass noodles within the beancurd

Location: Beitou Library

Huge, Nature-Themed Library,
It's so cosy and nice.
If only the public libraries in Malaysia are like this.

Location: Geothermal Valley

Hot spring water behind me,
the heat was just ... woah.
Imagine falling in there, ouch.

You know it!
Hot Spring time!
There are a lot of different shops that offer hot spring here,
initially we went to a dodgy secluded one,
but then decided to get back our money &
search for another.
We found a great looking one (in a hotel kay!) with similar prices as the dodgy ones.
Around Rm40 inclusive of towels, toiletries and water.
- WHAT A GOOD DEAL -

The experience was amazing,
goodbye sore legs, sore body from all the walking.
- REJUVENATE -

Besides that,
I learned that Japanese females will be completely naked in the ladies locker room.
yup, yup, yup.

The hotel even has an area to boiled your eggs in the hot spring water.

EGG-CELENT!

Location: National Palace Museum

We arrived late,
so we didn't get the opportunity to explore the inside of the museum :(
- BUMMER -

The exterior looks amazing,
I bet the interior will look even more amazing.
- NEXT TIME -

~ Uh-huh, welcome to much crib ~

~ With muh Man ~

- FEELS -
*que emotional music*

Okay, we were just being Goofy

This trip wouldn't even happen if it weren't for him,
thank you Mr. Planner Dear.

Location: Shilin Night Market

Deep Fried Milk
YAAAASSS.
Sweet and Sinful.

Our last night market of the trip :(

We ended the trip with Taiwanese Beer & Instant Noodles.
It was indeed a great trip.

I love:
 - the Clean Night Markets,
- the Public Transportation (SO EFFICIENT),
- the people (SO NICE),
- that I feel safe here,
- TAIWAN.
